Traditional Yoga Meditation classes in Sheffield and online

Traditional Yoga Meditation is a simple yet powerful approach, suitable for absolute beginners and more experienced meditators alike.

Every meditation tradition begins with daily practices that help to focus a scattered mind. A great way of doing this is to focus on a single object that is always with you: the movement of the breath in the body.

This simple practice is a brilliant introduction to meditation. It is a style of meditation has been practiced for thousands of year and is based on the eight step method as taught by Patanjali in The Yoga Sutras

A relevant and powerful course teaching skills of meditation.

The Yoga Sutras

The practical path of meditation is explained in The Yoga Sutras written by Patanjali – a great yogi and teacher – in around 200 BCE. In this he outlines the ‘eight fold path of yoga’ or the goal wholeness through meditation. The technique that is central to his teachings is meditation on the natural breath, known in Sanskrit as ‘Prana Samayama’.

Meditation on the natural breath is one of the key techniques taught in Traditional Yoga Meditation classes and courses.

Observing the natural incoming and outgoing breath will calm the mind and in turn develop awareness.
— Patanjali Yoga Sutras, 2:49

Meditation on the natural breath

The ‘natural breath’, means the ordinary, unforced moment-by-moment breath that’s with us all the time.

The natural breath is the bridge between our body, thoughts and emotions. By learning to sit with and observe the breath in meditation, we can gain greater awareness of how we feel and think. And with awareness comes the ability to make positive change.

The power of observation (or mindfulness) is cultivated through this meditation which can bring great calmness and tranquillity.

This in turn helps to keep us more grounded, improves our concentration and strengthens our resilience to the ups-and-downs of modern life.

I gained the start of being able to learn how to live with a life of extreme of emotions and difficult situations, now and ahead. I gained a bit of hope back.
