Deep Relaxation

Your chance to deeply relax, unwind and reset. When things feel too much this is the perfect gift to yourself.

The practice of deep relaxation is sometimes referred to as ‘Yoga Nidra’.

Our bodies are naturally designed to enjoy regular periods of ‘rest and recovery’. These are vital to maintaining our physical health and mental wellbeing .

However, in our hectic and stressful lives it is all too easy to push ourselves to keep going. We can then find ourselves out of balance, overwhelmed and feeling anxious.

These deep relaxations sessions are a wonderful way to help bring back a greater sense of health, harmony and happiness each month.

What happens in a deep relaxation class?

You will lie or sit comfortably and be guided through a four-stage method of inducing complete mental, emotional and physical relaxation. All you need to do is allow yourself to rest and follow my voice.

Each session includes a one hour deep relaxation session with an optional 15min ‘check-in and chat’ afterwards.

What are the benefits of relaxation?

Relaxation techniques can reduce stress symptoms and help you enjoy a better quality of life. It has many proven health benefits, including:

  • lowering your heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate

  • reducing muscle tension and chronic pain

  • improving concentration and mood

  • Improving digestion

  • reducing fatigue

  • reducing anger and frustration

  • boosting confidence to handle problems.

Stress and tension are natural parts of life. When you know how to relax, there’s no longer a need to get tense about being tense, or to feel anxious about feeling anxious.

Remember… Relaxation is not something that you do. It is a natural response that you allow to happen. Relaxation is what’s left when you stop creating tension.

What do I need to take part?

Currently all my classes are held will live on Zoom, an online video conferencing service. It’s very simple – really it is - and all you need is:

  • A smart phone, tablet, laptop or PC - ideally with a webcam, so I can see you as well as you being able to see me.

  • Internet access.

  • A quiet place to lie-down, where you won’t be disturbed. This could be a yoga mat, in a chair or on a bed. It’s up to you but the ideal place is somewhere comfortable where you can relax but remain awake.

  • You may also like to have a light blanket or sheet to cover yourself with as your body naturally cools down when you rest and relax. And any pillows or cushions to allow to settle comfortably into relaxation.

When are these classes?

Deep Relaxation classes take place on the last Sunday of the month 10-11.15am.

They take place live and online. A replay link will be available for seven days after each class. Classes run in blocks of varying lengths from three to six weeks.

New students are welcome to join at the start of a block.

What is the cost?

Unlike all my other TOBY YOGA classes, the Deep Relaxation sessions are payable on a class-by-class basis at a cost of £10 per session.

I appreciate that for many of us (myself included) the current climate is still financially uncertain and insecure, so I am able to offer a discount of up to 50% for those on low income.
