Dru Meditation

Discover the benefits of Dru Yoga’s uniquely effective approach to meditating that blends together movement, relaxation, concentration and meditation.

Unlike many other styles of meditation we do not go straight into meditation as this can be a struggle for us physically and mentally. In other words, you all too easily find your body wanting to fidget and your mind wandering. And then naturally decide that meditating it too hard. (It’s not.)

That’s why we begin by gently moving the body through specific sequences especially designed to settle the mind, release tension from the physical body and bring you back into balance. These can be done standing, sitting in a chair or as a mixture of the two, whatever works best for you.

This will be followed by a period of constructive rest following the Dru Four-Stage Relaxation process. The intention is to allow the body and mind to relax into stillness, dispelling any tiredness or lethargy.

Then, feeling refreshed and deeply relaxed we move into a mindful awareness of the body and the breath to aid concentration and focus.

And now we can move more easily and effectively into meditation.

We will explore using a range of different techniques, which may include breath work (or pranayama), visualisation and mantra.

The class will also include some yogic teachings, such as from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and a chance for questions and group discussion.

Do I need to have meditated before?

No, these classes are suitable for absolute beginners and seasoned meditators. That said, I would suggested that to gain most benefit from this Dru Meditation class, students new meditation attend one of my introductory, The Magic of Meditation courses first.

Why meditate?

You can practice meditation for whatever reason motivates you – for relaxation, to improve your health and wellbeing, or for developing your personal growth.

Modern science is now beginning to prove that the ancient yogis and sages were right when they spoke of all the riches that meditation can bring. This includes:

  • Strengthening and increasing positive emotions

  • Reducing stress, anxiety and depression

  • Boosting the immune system

  • Improving sleep

  • Decreasing blood pressure

  • Helping reduce pain.
